SIDNEY — Fans inside Sidney High School got far more than a typical season opener on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets needed three overtimes to outlast Greenville, pulling out a dramatic victory in front of an energized home crowd.
Sidney was powered by a balanced and resilient offensive attack. Kylie South led the Jackets with 15 points, providing steady scoring throughout the marathon matchup. Olivia Foy delivered a standout performance of her own, recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends of the floor.
In the clutch moments, it was Norah Kennedy who came through. Kennedy scored 11 points, including several critical free throws in the overtime periods that helped Sidney finally create the separation they needed.
The Jackets showed grit on defense and composure under pressure as both teams traded baskets deep into the night. Each overtime saw momentum swing back and forth, but Sidney’s discipline ultimately carried them to the finish.
With the thrilling win, Sidney opens the season 1–0 and sets the tone for what could be an exciting campaign.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday at home against Russia, looking to build on the momentum of their unforgettable home opener.
